Robert Leonard Kois, 78, of Cape Coral, FL passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at home. He was born January 27, 1937 in Tarentum, PA to Mary Kois, now deceased.
Robert was a member of St. Katharine Drexel Catholic Church and retired from the US Navy after nearly 30 years of service where he had achieved the rank of Aviation Machinist Mate Senior Chief Petty Officer. During his naval career, Robert served as Maintenance Crewman in VU-4, as Plane Captain/Flight Engineer in VP-26, VP-30, VP-16, and VP-44. He served as a Navy Recruiter on separate occasions in Somerset and Johnstown, PA, and also served aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga (CV-60) for two years. His many commendations and awards included the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal (with 6th star), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Cuba), and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
Robert was a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the American Legion, and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years Alexina Cromwell Kois of Cape Coral, sons Robert L. Kois, Jr., John D. Kois, daughters Nancy A. Anderson, Diane M. Kois (Astudillo), and Mary A. Kois, his grandchildren Ryan A. Kois, Sean H. Kois, Myles H. Kois, Ashley A. Anderson, Julian A. Astudillo, Dominique A. Astudillo, and Jaz A. Astudillo.
A military honors ceremony will be held on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241.
