Robert William Thieret, 92, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL since 1978, formerly of West View, PA, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by family on Sunday, May 12, 2024 at 4:21 p.m. in North Fort Myers. He was born June 12, 1931 in Pittsburgh, PA to Karl and Genevieve Thieret, now deceased.
Robert was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Athanasius Catholic Church in West View, PA as well as St. Therese Catholic Church in North Fort Myers, FL. Robert was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving as a medic in the Korean war.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Catherine Thieret of North Fort Myers; four loving children, Deborah, Diane, Donna, Dale and daughter-in-law Annie; sister, Bernice Saunders; ten grandchildren, Michael, Derrek, Amanda, Jose, Matthew, TJ, Robert, Jasmine, Kelsie and Carson; as well as seventeen great-grandchildren, Dylan, Kiley, Austin, Kaidence, Logan, Lauryn, Alayna, Trey, Nicholas, Malakai, Aubrey, Wade, Jeremiah, Noah, Liam, Everly and Emma.
Robert was a hard working man and sincerely a jack of all trades, but his passion was in cabinet making. He started his craft in the cellar of his home in West View, PA. He later opened his cabinet shop in Cheswick, PA. Working two jobs, he always managed to find time to spend with family and friends. Upon moving to Florida, he continued to work two jobs doing cabinet making and working as a Supervisor for the City of Cape Coral Parks and Recreation Dept. before retiring.
He was an avid collector of baseball memorabilia, coins, beanie babies and most recently guns and desert roses. Often you would find Robert at the local flea market, buying and selling, as long as he was getting a good deal.
Robert truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures, such as playing card games with family, traveling to casinos, painting statues and sitting with his wife doing puzzles.
He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a strong and faith driven man and instilled the importance of family to everyone. He was the family’s “Rock” and was always willing to provide a helping hand and teach what he knew through the process. He was a conservative man with republican beliefs and would let you know it proudly! Let’s go Brandon!
Whether you knew him as Robert, Bob, dad, daddy, pops, grandpa, or pap-pap, Frenchie, or simply as Mr. T, he was exactly the same man to all of us. He never wavered in who he was and what his beliefs were. He was a man who could be trusted, a man you could depend on and a man of his word. He was a man that would give you advice and his opinion, even if sometimes you weren’t ready to hear it. Overall he was a friend, and you knew it and felt every time you had the pleasure of being with him. He had an ability to reach people in a deep and positive way.
Although in this moment we are all grieving the loss of Robert, take a moment to shift your thoughts from how much we’ll miss him to one of your own many funny, joking, laughing, happy and comical times that you shared with him, because we all know he could tell a joke like no other, and there are many memories to cherish for all of us. He So briefly, relive it, enjoy it and smile. Because he would want you to!
