Robert Paul VanHamlin

Robert Paul VanHamlin, 62, a resident of Cape Coral, FL for the past 12 years, formerly of Gaylord, MI, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021 in Cape Coral. He was born June 23, 1958 in Flint, MI to John and Dorothy VanHamlin, now deceased.
Robert VanHamlin was a Navy Veteran of the U.S.S. Independence. It was there he learned his trade of electrician and proudly honed his skills for the next 30 years. The gift of gab was not lost on this man. He was outgoing and charming; many would say he was the life of the party. Rob would strike a conversation with anyone and gladly help someone in need as taught by his Catholic faith. He showed athletic ability at a young age and earned a spot in the all-star game as catcher in his youth baseball league. Golf ultimately became his favorite sport to play and watch. His passion for the sport was passed on to his two boys. Robert was a devoted husband and loving father. He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Vesta “Diane” VanHamlin of Cape Coral; two loving sons, Jeffery VanHamlin (Kristen) of Chesterfield, MI, and Joshua VanHamlin of Cape Coral; six siblings, Mary VanHamlin Powers of Venice, FL, Skip VanHamlin (Charlotte) of Flint, Tom VanHamlin (Cindy) of Cape Coral, Bill VanHamlin (Jolynn) of Mt. Morris, MI, Dan VanHamlin (Debora) of Bellair Beach, FL, and Frank VanHamlin (Tina) of New Orleans; as well as two grandchildren, Ava VanHamlin and William VanHamlin.
Robert was preceded in death by two sisters and baby brother, Karen VanHamlin Mullenix, Laura VanHamlin, and Joseph VanHamlin.
Memorial Services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 5291 Flushing Road, Flushing, MI 48433. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 2:00 PM, until the time of service. Military Honors will follow at 4:00 PM.
