Roberta "Erleene" Sanders

Roberta “Erleene” Sanders, 80, a Fort Myers resident since she was 11, formerly of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, passed away at Hope Hospice House on Sunday, July 6th, 2025. She was born in Mobile, Alabama to Christine and Earl Butler, now deceased.

Erleene attended Fort Myers High School, after which she moved away pursuing different occupations then moved back to Fort Myers. At this time, she and Andy Sanders began a relationship and a year later, they were married. Erleene took on the role of faithful wife and took part in the many hobbies that Andy enjoyed.

During her lifetime, Erleene was a member of Edison Community Church, the Fort Myers Rebels, Junior League, Fort Myers Woman’s Community Club, Garden Club, Edison Pageant of Light, CPAC, and Daughters of the American Revolution.

After the passing of her husband George Andrew “Andy” Sanders, she committed herself to the community. Erleene opened her heart and her home to many organizations. She helped shape the lives of countless young people.

She is survived by two loving daughters, Mary Christine Sanders and husband Jason Richardson and Dewey Sanders Bechdel also of Fort Myers: as well as three grandchildren, Will, Mandy, and Andrew.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00am Saturday July 19th, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church, 2438 Second Street, Fort Myers, FL 33901 with Pastor Jim Harper, III officiating.

A reception will immediately follow at the Sidney and Berne Davis Art Center, 2301 First Street, Fort Myers, FL .33901.

Memorial contributions in memory of Erleene Sanders are suggested to Hope Hospice in morehope.org.
