Ruth Evelyn Fries

Ruth Evelyn Fries, 88, a resident of Cape Coral, FL for the past two months, formerly of Holly Springs, NC and a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2022 in Cape Coral. She was born February 20, 1934 in Pittsburgh, PA to John V. and Ruth K. Hastings, now deceased.

Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. “Pomi” became her beloved nickname given to her by her grandson, Devlin. Always with a smile and positivity, she provided love and support to her family, friends, and co-workers. Her experience ranged from secretarial to working beside her husband at his store, Mt Nebo Super Market in Mt Nebo, PA. In her retirement, she worked at Highland Country Club in Pittsburgh, PA where she greeted and enjoyed all the members and their families. She strived to be outdoors, mostly with our dogs throughout the years. Her cheerfulness and beautiful outlook on life was overflowing with kindness.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly L. Fries (Adam Doolittle), and adored grandson, Devlin Doolittle of Holly Springs, NC; her brother, John V. Hastings of North Canton, OH; and nephews, Jay (Joy), Justin, and Jeffrey.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Francis J. Fries in 2019; as well as her sister, Joan L. Ortmiller in 2020.
