Scott Breard McDonald

Scott Breard McDonald, 51, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2020, formerly of Navasota, TX, passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025 in Cape Coral. He was born May 30, 1973 in Monroe, LA to parents Donna Raustler (Kirke) and Willis Marschall McDonald. A 1992 graduate of West Monroe High School in West Monroe, Louisana, he quarterbacked the West Monroe Rebels in 1990 and 1991 leading them to the playoffs in 1991.

Scott was of the Christian faith and a Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1993-1997 as a Gunner’s Mate. He became a longtime journalist after graduating from the University of Texas. After becoming editor and publisher at newspapers in Texas, he worked for Newsweek and Fox News Digital. His passion for sports led to covering the Olympics, high school/college championships and voting for the Heisman Trophy. He was awarded the 2014 Putt Powell Winner for State Sports Writer of the Year by the Texas High School Coaches Association. He also won awards from the Texas Press Association for sports writing, editorial writing, news photos and feature photos. 

Scott is remembered as an avid reader, lover of music and for his sense of humor. His knowledge and passion for sports was unmatched. He was loved by many and never met someone who wasn’t a friend.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Yvonne Recio of Cape Coral,FL ; loving mother, Donna Raustler (Kirke) of Grand Bay, AL; as well as a sister, Julie Webb (Jason) of Ocean Springs, MS and nephews, Jay McDonald and Jaxon Webb; as well as great niece Luna Marie McDonald.

Scott was preceded in death by his father, Willis Marschall McDonald.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Orange Beach / Perdido Key Pensacola Fl. June 20-22nd, 2025.  Details to be announced via www.MullinsMemorial.com
