Stephen M. Jacobs (also known as “Bop” to his granddaughter/best friend), 76, of Cape Coral, FL, passed on 3/6/2023. Stephen was born 12/1/1946, to Maxwell and Ruth Jacobs, sibling to Jerry, Ellen, Robert and Richard, in Worcester, MA where he was raised.
Stephen was a devoted husband to Carol Jacobs of 50 years; they celebrated their 50 year anniversary on 7/23/2022. Stephen is survived by Carol, his four children: Adrian, Alexis, Kristian and Gabriel, and three grandchildren: Kent, Ryan and Kahlina.
Stephen attended Classical Highschool from 1961-1962 and finished at North Highschool from 1962-1965, both in Worcester, MA. During high-school he became a phenomenal artist and initially planned for a career in art, before enlisting in the US Army in 1966. He proudly served his country as a US Army Vietnam Veteran as a Specialist, scoring off the charts on his Army classification test which landed him to be referred to OTS. Stephen met his wife Carol while in college and earned his bachelors degree at Umass Amherst in 1972. Stephen was a brilliant man and one of the leading problem solvers of his generation. He worked for prominent companies throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s and founded two successful businesses in the 1980’s and 1990’s; Stephen’s 1 Hour Photo, a photography and development store and Shoreline Tool and Engineering, an engineering firm, both located in Old Saybrook, CT. Stephen was a plastics and mold connoisseur. Stephen later became upper management at General Electric before becoming a highly sought after efficiency consultant for major US companies. Stephen was contracted to consult on major projects and production facilities to improve efficiency and spearhead product development at several companies, such as Velcro, General Motors, Rainbird, MedSource, Rubbermaid, to name a few.
Stephen had many hobbies and was a master craftsman of many things. His garage prior to hurricane Ian’s flood of his home, was reminiscent of Santa’s workshop. He had every tool you could imagine. Stephen excelled in anything he put his mind to. He loved to fabricate many things from wood, cast his own molds, make jewelry, stained glass and more. He would love to make wood toys for his children and grandchildren that were so precise that they looked like they came from the factory. Stephen really enjoyed the water, fishing and spending time with family.
Stephen was the epitome of a moral compass. Someone that really knew life in and out. He would go out of his way to do the right thing. Stephen was the most compassionate, calculated and reliable person around. If anyone had a problem, they always looked at Stephen for the answer. He simply knew virtually everything. Stephen had left a permanent mark on virtually anyone’s life that met him. He will be sorely missed by all those that knew him, especially his loved ones.
