Vailoa Kaleopa Tavai, Sr.

August 25, 1932 — April 15, 2023

Vailoa Kaleopa Tavai, Sr., 90, a resident of Cape Coral, Florida for the past seven years, formerly of Ewa Beach, Hawaii passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023 in Cape Coral. He was born to Kaleopa Sr. and Faofale Futu on August 25, 1932 in Utulei, American Samoa.

Vailoa moved to Hawaii as a young adult where he resided with his dad’s sister, Mainaivasa and her beloved husband, Maninoa Thompson.  He was able to help move some of his siblings to Hawaii and became an active member of the Moanalua Samoan Congregational Christian Church, EFKS and Amataga Fou Congregational Christian Church.

Vailoa met the love of his life, Tauava’e Pa’u Tautua of Fagasa, American Samoa. Together they had six children. He was a loving caring father and a devoted loving husband.  He began his career at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard as a journeyman.  He later decided to become a truck driver and worked for American Van Lines, Anheuser-Busch and lastly Jonah’s Delivery service.  He finally retired from Hickam Elementary school as a school custodian.

He was preceded in death by siblings that he so dearly loved, Esera (Leatuvai), Kaleopa Lau’ulusa (Malua’e), Luise (Sulu Mau) Tafaoimalo, Fania (Siutu), Siligi (Fono), Kaleopa Richard.  

He is survived by six loving children, Vailoa Jr. (Susan) of Cape Coral, Florida, Livingston of Garden Grove, California, George (Desiree) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Richard (Monica) of Laurinburg, North Carolina; Margret Tuisalo’o (Taugavau Jr.) of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Isaac (Salena) of Ewa Beach, Hawaii. He is also survived by his younger brother, Uili Kaleopa Tavai of Anchorage, Alaska; 13 grandchildren, Brian, Monica, Veronica, Livingston Jr., Jerome, Clinton, Jeremy, Jesse (Danielle), Kylie~Rei (Damon), Tia, Jaylan, Joey (Elijah), Kayleb; two great grandchildren, Chaysten and Chrysten Fuentes; as well as many loving and devoted nieces and nephews.

Dad was a strong man of faith and placed his family ahead of worldly treasures.  He was a great example of humility, honor, strength and love.  We hope to continue your legacy Dad, and we will fulfill your last wishes to look after and take good care of our Mother and each other.  We know you are in heaven with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and we will miss you dearly.
