Vandy “Van” Edward Cusson

Vandy “Van” Edward Cusson, 74, a resident of Ft. Myers and Lee County for the past 35 years, formerly of Miami, FL, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 in his home in Ft. Myers, surrounded by loved ones.  He was born October 23, 1948 in New Haven, CT to Richard and Harriet Cusson, now deceased. 

Van was a loving father, grandfather, and role model to so many throughout his life. He served two tours in Vietnam and after a brief station in Germany returned home and entered trade school. He spent a life long career in the HVAC field where he trained many young tradesmen of the community before his retirement shortly after his son's passing. Through every tragedy and hardship in his life Van persevered and was a beacon of strength for those around him. Van was his happiest on the water fishing or spending time with his grandchildren, who idolized him. The world lost a truly good man who embodied the essence of virtue and compassion, and a void will be forever felt without his presence, yet he lives on through all those touched and guided along his journey.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Erin Cusson of Ft. Myers; siblings, Richard Cusson, Jr. (Dorothea) of Madison, MS, and Sherry Ailant of Ft. Myers; brother-in-law, Edward Ailant of Pine Island, FL; three grandchildren, Julieta, Julian and Rosa; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Van was preceded in death by his son, Vandy Jr. and daughter, Michele; as well as former wife, Julia, and many other loved ones.

A Graveside Service will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 3, 2022 at the Alva Cemetery, Cemetery Rd, Alva, FL 33920 with Chaplain Richard Cusson officiating.
