Verna Catherine Schmatz

Verna Catherine Schmatz, 87, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL since 1978, formerly of Staten Island, NY, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024 in North Fort Myers. She was born May 20, 1936 in Staten Island to John and Catherine Pratnicki, now deceased.

Verna was a member of St. Vincent De Paul Roman Catholic Church in Fort Myers. She was a 1954 graduate of St Joseph Hill Academy High School in Staten Island N.Y.

She worked as a private secretary on Wall Street for 14 years Then moved to Naples Italy for a year and a half. From Italy she toured the east coast of Africa and then settled in the Fort Myers area in 1978

She was passionate about her gardening and yard sailing and above all her church

She is survived by her beloved husband of over 34 years, Elliot T. Rosenfield of North Fort Myers; nieces, Kathy and Claire; as well as nephews, Michael and David.

Verna was preceded in death by a sister, Claire McCarthy.

Memorial Services will be held in the near future at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 13031 Palm Beach Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33905 with Father O’Madagain officiating.
