Vital Fernand Omer Bourque

July 2, 1937 — January 20, 2024

Omer (Vital Fernand Omer) Bourque, affectionately known as Om, Dad, Daddy, Pops & Papa, lived a beautiful life! Omer was born on July 2, 1937 in
Lewiston, Maine, to loving parents, Leon & Alice (Belisle) Bourque, the eleventh of twelve children.

A devout Catholic, he attended Holy Family Church and school through the 8th grade, where he was an altar boy. Omer played hockey for St. Dominic’s High
School (Class of 1955) and joined the US Marine Corps after graduation, attained the rank of Sergeant and received both a Good Conduct and a sharp
shooter medal. On January 29, 1958, he married his high school sweetheart, Suzanne (Sue) Tardiff. Together they raised 7 children.

Omer was a hardworking man, extremely dedicated to his family, and despite sometimes working three jobs, he always prioritized making time for them. He
worked as a meat cutter at Bourque’s Market; at Sears Roebuck, as a salesman, credit and appliance department manager. In 1975, the family moved to Natick, MA where Omer was operations manager at the Oblate Retreat House. He was also involved in youth ministry and manager of Living Waters, a Christian performing company. He co-owned a bus company and enjoyed driving groups on tours and trips. Omer worked at MIT Lincoln Labs as an Inventory Control/Operations Manager and retired in 2000. Soon after, he and Sue moved to FL. There he continued to enjoy golf, bowling, and karaoke at Pine Lakes where he was Men’s Club President and a communicant at St. Therese Parish. He joined the Knights of Columbus attaining the 4th Degree and volunteered for Bingo & other activities until his health didn’t allow him to participate.

Omer was a charismatic force, and a natural born leader. People gravitated towards him, and his door was always open. He was loving, caring, attentive, and a hilarious jokester. If you were around Om, you were guaranteed to laugh and most likely sing! Omer truly relished his role as Papa to his grand and great grandchildren. At any family gathering, he would always be seen holding a grandchild’s hand, kissing their cheeks or bouncing a baby on his knee while
singing to them or even giving them a ride on his walker in later years!

On January 20th, 2024, Omer died suddenly and unexpectedly at home with his wife and daughter, by his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, 10
siblings, and his first grandchild, Jessica. He is survived by his loving wife, Sue, & daughter: Joline Lambert both of North Fort Myers, FL; his sons:
David (Kathleen) of Worcester, MA; James (Lori) Vero Beach, FL; Marc (Maureen) Carmel, ME; John (Kimberly) Douglas, MA; Michael (Gail) Franklin, MA; daughter: Anne Marie Loell (Gregory) of Uxbridge, MA; and his sister: Gisele Maurais Jackson of Rhode Island. He is also survived by twenty-eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

We are grateful for your legacy of unconditional love, your hard work and your wise words of advice. We are all better people because of you. We’re glad you’re free from illness and look forward to being with you again one day!
