Walter (Brother) James Newell

Walter (Brother) James Newell, 82, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Whitehall, NY, passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2022 in North Fort Myers. He was born July 19, 1940 in Whitehall to Walter and Grace Newell, Sr., now deceased.
After serving in the United States Army, he returned to Whitehall to open Frere and Company Marine Hardware and Supply, which he alternated with winters in Ft. Myers, FL, first at Olsen’s Marine and later at Owl Creek Boatworks. He retired in 2020. He loved helping others, and always accepted them without criticism, making each one comfortable in his presence. A quiet man of honor and integrity, he kept his word, did his duty, and loved his wife.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Betty Newell of North Fort Myers; as well as four sisters, Laura Morris of Seattle, WA, Anne Koegler, also of Seattle, Gill Nash of Whitehall, NY, and Kibbie and Phillip Rolf of Sunrise Beach, MO.
