Warren Nicholai Hoy, 84, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2014, formerly of Denver, CO, passed away Sunday May 7, 2023 in Cape Coral. He was born November 18, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to John and Ethel Hoy, now deceased.
Warren was a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was very proud of his Marine Corp service and proudly wore and displayed his Marine Corps insignia until his death.
He attended Farmingdale University in Farmingdale, NY and obtained a Mechanical Drafting Certification. He went on to work for Airborne Instruments Laboratory and Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, Long Island, NY. He worked on many projects, but his proudest work was his involvement in helping to design the Apollo Lunar Module (LEM) antennae system. He often proudly showed his Lunar Module photographs and models to family and friends. He was a lifelong lover of science and space technology and was known to watch every science and space documentary that he could find.
As the aerospace industry wound down in the late 1960’s, Warren went into business with his wife, Doris and bought a delicatessen in Setauket, NY named the Three Village Deli. Together they ran this business for many years and eventually decided to go further into the food service and hospitality industry which they both loved. Warren went on to work as Head Chef in several restaurants on Long Island, NY and a hotel in Daytona Beach, FL.
Warren and Doris, now with their children grown, got the urge to travel. Warren worked Food Service director positions on military bases in the Sinai Peninsula and Egypt. While living overseas, they traveled often through Europe, the Mediterranean and Middle East. When they returned to the US, Warren went to work for Antarctic Support Associates in Denver, CO as a Food Service Director at McMurdo Station in Antarctica. He loved McMurdo Station and talked about it for years afterward. Warren and Doris made their home in Centennial, CO for almost 25 years. After completing his work with Antarctic Support Associates in Denver, CO he opened Express Vending Services where he serviced vending machines for large corporations around the Denver Metro area. Warren and Doris eventually retired and moved to Cape Coral on the southwest coast of Florida to be closer to family.
He is survived by two loving children, Tammy Yeokum (Dan) of Overland Park, KS and Donald Hoy of Cape Coral; former daughter-in-law, Kim Flannery of Cape Coral; six grandchildren, Michael McIntire, Kelsey McIntire, Nicole Hoy, Taylor Hoy, Jem McRae and Duncan McRae as well as three great grandchildren, Charlotte McIntire, Madison Hanson and Mason Hanson.
