William S. Broadbent, Jr., “Spanky,” 73, a Cape Coral, Florida resident for the last 11 years, formerly of North Wildwood, NJ, passed away July 25, 2025, in Cape Coral. He was born August 12, 1951, in Philadelphia, PA to Elizabeth and William Broadbent, now deceased.
Bill was a Philadelphia police officer for 36 years. He was a Policeman in the 9th District, a Sergeant in the 25th district, a Lieutenant in the Special Victims Unit (SVU) and Captain in the Narcotics Strike Force (NSF).
Friends called him a “Card Carrying Gentleman” to everyone else he was “ Spanky”.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lucy Broadbent of Cape Coral; a daughter, Jessica Downs and husband Brian of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Alfred Broadbent and his wife Virginia of Cortez, FL; a sister, Elizabeth Gray and her husband Edward of Ocean City, NJ; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, William Edward Broadbent and two brothers, John and Richard Broadbent.
Memorial services will be held 10:00 am Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at Sunset Memorial Park, County Line Road Somerton, Philadelphia, PA 19116. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the local FOP..
