William Samuel Wilson, III, a resident of North Fort Myers for the past 10 years, formerly of Lisbon, ME, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022 in North Fort Myers. He was born January 12, 1952 in Charlotte, NC to William, II and Louise Mockler, now deceased.
William graduated high school and went on quite an adventure across the United States from Maine all the way to California hitchhiking with his buddy and had so many great stories to tell. He then returned to Maine where he began working in the roofing and siding business with his stepdad, David Mockler and brothers. In 1977 he met the love of his life Deb at White’s Beach.
He lived in Maine where he raised his 5 kids and worked as a roofer and siding contractor for several years then he went back to school in the 80’s to obtain his degree in heating/ electrician as well as asbestos removal. He later took a job at LL.Bean and retired from Walmart. Then relocated in his retirement to North Fort Myers, Florida.
He loved all Sports and enjoyed watching the games with his sons. He was a wrestler in high school and a softball coach for many years in his adulthood. His favorite thing to do in retirement was to be a “scraper” collecting scrap metal for recycling. Along his way he would meet and gain many friends, and everyone knew “Scraper Sam”. He had an outgoing and talkative personality and always made friends everywhere he went.
Sam was a dedicated Husband and Father. He treasured his kids and embraced every moment with them. He especially loved his role of Papa/ Grandpa to his 16 grandkids. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Debra Wilson, of N. Ft. Myers; four children, William Wilson, IV and Wife (Rosie) of Rangeley, ME, Shane Wilson of Sabattus, ME, Shawn Wilson of Lisbon Falls, ME and Jessica Wilson of Altamonte Springs, FL; one sister, five brothers and sixteen grandchildren; as well as Coco the dog and Sweat Pea the bird.
William was preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Wilson; as well as two sisters, Davida Boudreau and Pamela Smith.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 12th, 2023 in Maine on Sam's 71st Birthday. Burial service will be held in the spring on Saturday, May 13th, 2023 on his and Deb’s 45th wedding anniversary.
