Carol Jean McCarty

Carol Jean McCarty, 82, formerly of Marion, Ohio resided with her daughter and son-in-law who cared for her for several years before moving with her to Fort Myers, FL. Carol passed away Sunday, September 24, 2023 in Lee County, Fort Myers, FL at Gulf Coast Medical Center. She was born June 27, 1941 in Salyersville, KY to Earnie Jack Meade and Addie Pendleton.

Carol was of the Baptist faith. She retired from Wyandot Popcorn after thirty-seven years of service where she held various positions. Carol was a loving mother and grandmother and a devoted friend to many. She was the victim to many practical jokes played on her during the holidays. Her home was where her family would gather for a large Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. She always made certain she fixed everyone’s favorites. Carol loved going to the casinos. What she won, she usually gave back to them. She had many friends, but there were two she worked with that were her partners in crime, Sara Ashworth and Karen Bays. You never knew what the three were going to do next, but you could be certain they always had fun.

Carol is survived by three daughters, Cookie (Leonard) Butcher of Salyersville, KY, Margie (William) Marshall of Fort Myers, FL, and Rita (Bruce) Emptage of LaRue, OH; a sister, Lillian Meade of Marion, OH; two brothers, Jackie Meade of CA, and James Meade of Marion, Ohio; eight grandchildren; twenty-great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; two sons, David McCarty, and Kenneth McCarty; daughter, Neva Mccarty; a granddaughter, Kristi Marshall; a grandson, Bryan Emptage; three sisters, Ola Conley, Maxine Blanton, and Shirley Phipps.

A Celebration of Life to be held in Grand Prairie Cemetery in Marion, Ohio at a later date.
