Colleen Shave

March 15, 1953 — July 8, 2025

Colleen Shave, 72, a resident of Port Charlotte, Florida, since 1978, passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Fort Myers, Florida. She was born on March 15, 1953, in Miami, Florida, to Constance and Robert MacCurdy.

Colleen was known for her brilliance, humor, and unshakable strength. To her family, she was a rock; she was always there and always kind. She was generous, compassionate, and made everyone she loved feel seen and supported. She was most at home outdoors. She enjoyed tending to her plants, walking in the woods, or just watching the waves roll in at the beach. She was happiest when she was with her family and her young grandsons, whom she loved fiercely. She especially loved retelling the story of a Christmas when Andrew pointed at her and said, “No-no, Nee-Nee, you did it!”—accusing her of sneaking a peek at a gift. She laughed about it for years. With Finlay, she was a second mom. She came to school picnics and swimming lessons, picked him up weekly from daycare, and let him run the garden hose for hours, muddying up the yard and the dog without a care.

Colleen lived a life rooted in service, strength, and love. After years as a stay-at-home mom (her favorite job) she joined the professional world by helping to run the family title insurance business.

She was deeply committed to giving back. As the Charlotte County Coordinator for Special Olympics, Colleen devoted years to creating inclusive spaces for athletes of all abilities to compete. She also donated blood throughout her life, which she literally gave by the gallon—a quiet, lifelong act of compassion.

Colleen met her husband, Jim, in fourth grade. Jim and Colleen were married for 53 years, they built a home full of love and laughter. Colleen truly took care of her family, not just with every load of laundry and home-cooked meal, but with wisdom, warmth, and presence. She had an effortless way of blending unconditional love with a lifetime of practical experience, offering guidance, humor, and the kind of support that made her indispensable.

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jim Shave of Port Charlotte; two children, Rob Shave and wife Angela of Tallahassee, FL, and Brenda Shave of Punta Gorda, FL; three sisters, Wendy Wesling and husband Dave of Tampa, FL, Tutor Gray of North Carolina, and Megan Flores and husband Roy also of NC; two grandchildren, Finlay and Andrew; as well as several nieces and nephews and Ellie May the lab. In addition to her parents, Colleen was preceded in death by her brother, Buzz MacCurdy.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Colleen Shave, are suggested to support the future education of her cherished grandsons, Andrew and Finlay's 529 Plan. The family will provide contribution details.
