Lucille "Nonnie" Metz

Lucille (Mazzei) Metz, 94, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025, in Naples, Florida, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 10, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, Lucille was the daughter of Ettore and Josephine Mazzei (both deceased). She was raised in Dongan Hills and later resided in St. George, Staten Island. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd “Flip” T. Metz.

Lucille was a talented and accomplished seamstress, having worked in her parents’ dress factory on Osgood Avenue in Staten Island. She later retired in 1995 from Staten Island Hospital, where she worked in the dietary department.

She is survived by her five loving children: Floyd T. Metz (Catherine) of Cape Coral; Calli Hendrickson (the late Edward) of Naples; Lois Forlenza of Estero; Edward Metz (Gina) of Dunedin; and Thomas Metz (Doreen) of Cape Coral. Lucille was the proud and devoted grandmother of eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Lucille is also survived by her dear sisters Janet Taylor (William) of New York and Catherine Balletto (Louis) of New Jersey. She was preceded in death by siblings Ann Miles and Baldo Mazzei. Lucille also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews.

Known affectionately as “Nonnie,” Lucille will be remembered for her warmth, quick wit, generous heart, and the deep love she poured into her family. Also fondly remembered for her love of food, music, and dancing—especially in her later years, when she was known for being first to the table and the last to leave it.

A memorial mass will be held 9:30 am on Friday, June 27, 2025 at St. Joseph St. Thomas, 6097 Amboy Road, Staten Island, NY  followed by interment at the Cemetery of the Resurrection on Staten Island, New York.

Lucille “Nonnie” Metz will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
