Madelyn Anne Tochka Chrone, 71, a resident of Cape Coral, Florida, since 2003, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 7, 2023, at HealthPark Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. She was born September 17, 1952, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Madelyn grew up in Brighton and attended the Boston Girls’ Latin School, graduating the Class of 1970. She received her bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University in 1974, master’s degree from Fordham University in 1976, and juris doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law in 1986. She was a Latin teacher at Westfield High School in New Jersey, a public defense attorney in New York City, and, in her retirement years, a substitute teacher for the Florida Lee County School District.
The recipient of a heart transplant in 2000, Madelyn was given a second chance at life, and forever grateful for the opportunity to have an additional 23 years with her family. As a member of the Organ Transplant Recipients of Southwest Florida, she visited high schools to educate young minds on the gift of organ and tissue donation.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and loyal friend to many. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with friends and family, and caring for her furry friends. She was always seen with her Shiloh or Aggie, whom she took everywhere, including nursing and assisted living homes to brighten the day of those she met. Madelyn was very proud of her Albanian-American heritage and was known to speak her mind passionately and freely on all matters. She will be remembered for the immense love she had for her family.
Madelyn is survived by her husband of 31 years, Michael “Artie” Chrone; son, Nicholas Chrone and his fiancée, Rachael Swisher; stepsons, Michael and Christopher Chrone; stepdaughter, Darlene Timberman; many step-grandchildren; her brothers, Leonard and Robert Tochka, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Anne Koki Tochka.
