Robert Edgar Schwerman

Robert Edgar Schwerman, 84, a resident of Keshena, WI, and snowbird of Lee County FL since 2013, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children, at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Fort Myers Florida.

He was born on September 11, 1940, in Libertyville, IL to Robert and Florence Schwerman, (Godwin).

Robert was raised in Mundelein IL and attended Lincoln School and Libertyville Fremont High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps serving for six years; ending his career as an E-4. He spent his time in the military in San Diego, 29 Palms California and Okinawa.

Robert lived in Green Oaks IL for 42 years during which time he worked as a plumber with his father and later with his son, William. He coached Libertyville Boys Club Football for several years; was a Webelo leader and Scout Master for nine years. Later he spent several years coaching his youngest daughter, Karen, in Libertyville Girls Softball & moving on to assistant coach with the Flames Girls’ Softball Travel League in Rockford IL. He introduced his family to camping beginning in a tent and ending up in a Class A Motor Coach

After building two homes, he retired to his “Happy Place” on Legend Lake in Wisconsin where he continued his love of gardening and enjoying the lake. He spent the last 13 summers on the lake and winters traveling south in his Coach, which he loved driving.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Joanne Schwerman of Keshena, WI; five children, William Sutton (Amy) of Orlando, FL, Heidi Houlihan (Brian) of Johnsburg, IL, Thomas Sutton of Green Bay, WI, April Schwerman of Hoffman Estates, IL and Karen Stone (Robert) of Franklin, WI; one sister, Sharon Newland of L’Anse, MI; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren as well as fur baby, Riley Rae.  He was preceded in death by his grandson William, parents Robert & Florence and sister Gail.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in WI.
